Dr. Lauren R. Shapiro is an Associate Professor at the Department of Security, Fire, and Emergency Management at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.  Dr. Shapiro has a PhD in Cognitive-Development Psychology from Rutgers, MSCJ specializing in Law from Indiana State University, MS in Experimental Psychology from Ohio University, and an undergraduate degree in Psychology and in Early Childhood Education from University of Buffalo. She was a postdoctoral fellow with the Carolina Consortium at University of North Carolina/Chapel Hill. Dr. Shapiro’s research interests and publications center around interpersonal cyber crime (e.g., cyberswatting, sextortion, online sex trafficking, cyberbullying, online child sexual abuse and exploitative material, online image based sexual abuse); investigation; legal, education, and cyber security remedies; cyber abuse and victimization on social media platforms; and online radicalization to terrorism.
